I agree
John,
I agree and am disappointed as well. Thank you for your efforts.

Yeah that's the claim. We are looking into what it would take to reincode. The new format may be better, but we did 65,000 video clips in Mr.Jobs state of the art software at the time. Think he should give people the option of continuing to see them. And the Flash thing, well in my view, that's using your hardware leverage for business advantage as opposed to creating the most versatile and valuable tools possible. And yeah, it might be crazy to expect that...Last edited by John Yandell; 06-29-2011, 09:22 AM.

H.264 conversion
From Steve Jobs response to the Apple/Adobe issue:
To achieve long battery life when playing video, mobile devices must decode the video in hardware; decoding it in software uses too much power. Many of the chips used in modern mobile devices contain a decoder called H.264 – an industry standard that is used in every Blu-ray DVD player and has been adopted by Apple, Google (YouTube), Vimeo, Netflix and many other companies.
Although Flash has recently added support for H.264, the video on almost all Flash websites currently requires an older generation decoder that is not implemented in mobile chips and must be run in software. The difference is striking: on an iPhone, for example, H.264 videos play for up to 10 hours, while videos decoded in software play for less than 5 hours before the battery is fully drained.
When websites re-encode their videos using H.264, they can offer them without using Flash at all. They play perfectly in browsers like Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome without any plugins whatsoever, and look great on iPhones, iPods and iPads.

Update Skyfire App to view QuickTime videos
Just updated my iPhone with the latest update for the Skyfire App. You can now view all QuickTime movies on tennisplayer.net.
Cheer,

Video Technology // Another thing I wanted to tell you...
With the launch of the new Mac store almost two weeks ago, there seems to be a new place for getting your one stop shopping for all things Mac. I briefly toured the store and found this little gem--Swing It. A golf swing analysis tool. There are three versions, but the one to take a look at is the pro version for $149--not cheap, but less expensive than Dartfish or any other comparable software. You can download the free full demo version and explore it for yourself. Some of the features don't apply to tennis, but if you like to draw and highlight on top of a movie, that and many more features are available. I hope these guys will develop a tennis version that works with the iPad--that would be interesting.
Here is the link:
Cheers,

flash media/Skyfire
does the skyfire app for the ipod touch enable one to view tennisplayer.net's video content natively (HD and High FPS content, also?) or is the above QT 7 Pro workaround still the best solution? thanks.Originally posted by sperlsco View PostYou can actually download, transfer, and watch the pro stroke videos on an iPad or iPhone. The recently released app VLC Media Player will play .mov files that have been transferred to the device.
1) Download the .mov file to your computer using Quicktime Pro (as detailed by JY's helpful tutorial).
2) Connect your idevice to your computer, open up iTunes, go to the Apps tab, scroll to the File Sharing Section, and select the VLC app, click the Add button, find/select the videos downloaded on your computer that you desire to watch on your idevice. (these same instructions also appear in the VLC app on your idevice).
Obviously it would be preferable to be able to view the Tennisplayer.net website in all its glory directly on the iPad, but this solution will at least allow iPad users to utilize some of the resources (with some advanced planning). There is also a third-party browser app awaiting approval from the Appstore that will supposedly convert Flash content to HTML5 content -- making such content directly viewable (hopefully) on the idevice.

Skyfire is now available in the Swiss iTunes shop. Got it, but the videos in Tennisplayer.net can't be viewed...

Archos 10
I recently bought the Archos 10 and it is great for showing video on court. Supports all kinds of file formats and it is relatively cheap as well!
I can only highly recommend it.

Being in Switzerland, I can't buy the Skyfire browser in the iTunes shop yet, but apparently it offers a Flash video conversion. I assume it will soon also be available on the iPad. Maybe someone can test it.

I'm sure you could download QT onto any PC tablet! Could be wrong but I doubt it. Anyone else have the final word on that??

Samsung Galaxy
FYI, I went to Best Buy and tried to access the site with the Galaxy by Samsung which uses the Droid OS. The site came up rather quickly but it would not show any of the stroke archive clips. The guy at the store said that to his knowledge none of the tablets would run quicktime movies at this time. Looks like Sperls round about method is the only one that works, for now.

Blackberry Playbook?
Guys,
Pardon me for my naivete, for I am not the most tech savvy guy on this forum by a long shot...But I could not help but to bring up the new Blackberry Playbook. It is supposed to be the iPad rival. Apparently it will have the Adobe and Flash! Judging by some previous comments about the difficulty of getting the above mentioned programs to operate on the iPad, I think this could be a real possibility.
I'm sure some of you may have already looked into it. And I'm certain many of you have more tech gadget insights than me, but I thought it would be a thoughtful suggestion to your problems. Personally, If I spent all this money on an iPad and was unable to view tennisplayer.net's stroke archive I'd be a bit upset.
I never really considered purchasing the iPad simply for the fact that the benefits of owning one never justified the cost and/or capabilities. But if the RIM Blackberry Playbook could assist me with aiding in my students games by viewing specific aspects of the TP.net site than I would really be interested. Plus, I'm sure it may have one or two other neat things about it...
I have spoken to and thanked Mr. Yandell for his great work and influence on my teachings and I highly respect all contributors insights into this project. Therefore, If and when I receive word of a fully functional, tennisplayer.net friendly "handheld computer tablet thing" (really showcasing my correct tech jargon
), I would make a concerted effort to purchase one simply for the betterment and a visual learning tool of my loyal students and to share with them the knowledge that Tennisplayer.net has been so consistently gracious in sharing with me.
Considering the fact that I only wanted to briefly mention the Blackberry Playbook as another option in three lines or less, I'm sorry for the long winded email. I always do this. LOL.
Sincerely,
Kyle LaCroix USPTA
