    First Recorded "Golden Set"

    February 22, 1983: Bill Scanlon wins the first recorded “golden set” in professional tennis, winning all 24 points in the second set of his 6-2, 6-0 win over Marcos Hocevar of Brazil in the first round of the $300,000 WCT Gold Coast Cup in Delray Beach, Fla.

    I remember Bill Scanlon...a name from the past. What's he up to these days?

        Oh...that's sad.

        Funny because your post prodded me into thinking about other American players and what became of them.

        Many years ago a player called Billy Martin was hailed has an up and coming and widely thought of player...nothing happened.

        Also I saw a kid called Ben Testerman (must have been about 18 at the time) play a mixed at Wimbledon with Billie Jean King. Nothing ever came of him either as I recollect.
