Excellent sport psychology for coaches! I wonder if the mechanic /magician theory requires like minded players for world class doubles teams? I have seen some college coaches who are mechanics in their own game and therefore crushed the spirit of some of the magicians on their team.

Good insight. Yes. Clashes between players and coaches of different types are common. And with parents and kids.

I might suggest that opposite types could make a good doubles pairing. Good question.

Great article and very true the coach can influence process and it's important she or he gets that right. For God's sake don't change a magician into a complete mechanic!

The ultimate mechanic for me would be Borg. The ultimate magician would be Nastase.
