I stand corrected...the final was sort of uplifting. Not that it changed the big picture. But...two cousins in the final of an ATP 1000 event? That is incredible. I was reading a little of their story and they played college tennis at Texas A&M...I think it was. Number 2 and Number 4 singles, I believe. A beast of a team that didn't make the finals. Highlighting the fact that foreign players are taking scholarships from native Americans. Too bad...the college circuit can be an excellent training ground. Steve Denton is the coach and Texas and he is a name out of the end of the classic era.

One minor observation regarding the play at Shanghai. I saw nothing but highlights but I noticed in his match against Denis "Mr. Pencil" Medvedev, Rinderknech was showing some rather nice movement around the net. Some serve and volley tactics against Medvedev standing light years behind the baseline. Rinderknech had quite the "nose for the net" and showed a rare ability to anticipate the pass and close in on the net to execute his volleys which in turn really accentuates his ability to play the angles with soft placement volleys.
