My theory is that all the various finishes are mostly just a "result" of what was going on during that 4 or 5 milliseconds when the strings were scraping across the ball, and maybe partly due to what the player is attempting to do as far as slowing the racket down and getting back to his ready position. Therefore, I figure there's pretty much a continuum from a straight up reverse finish on over to all the other possible types of finishes. Of course, I've been wrong before. . .
