    what is the optimum angle between the racquet shaft and forearm at contact on a comfortable height forehand volley????

    I don't think there is any "optimum" angle. Somewhere between 0 and 90 and more likely 20 and 70. The classic description is 45 degrees, but that is not the critical element. Given that the angle is positive somewhere between 20 and 70, the critical element is that the angle be maintained through the stroke.

      Why are the volleys difficult to understand and to master? The volley motions may be the most compact in terms of the size of the swings, but understanding them is every bit as challenging as the other strokes. Maybe more so. In my opinion, most teaching information about how to hit the volley is inaccurate...

        This information in post #2 seems liberating because of all the people who have a mechanistic idea about this and therefore try for one angle only.
