great stories of recent great players

Wonderful to hear stories of great tennis players from recent past and it's further encouragement that a life as a player is a healthy life style.

When Tom Brown was playing Jack Kramer at Wimbledon in 1946, I was 9 years of age playing in my first junior tournament at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco. Many year later while playing senior tennis, in age brackets 35s' through 45s' (yes, he played in those age brackets just to get some competition) we became great friends. Most every Friday morning we would play singles at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Thereafter, we would retire for lunch which is when I realized he possessed a quiet Johnny Carson sense of humor. His tales were hilarious. His was a lawyer by profession and drew up my first Will & Testament. He forgot more about the game of tennis than most players, including professionals, will ever know. I do indeed miss that competitive look....you know, take no prisoners. Thanks Lee for this wonderful article. A great article that paints a fascinating picture of the tennis greats of that Golden Era. Since those were my times, I really enjoyed hearing about those great players again. May they continue to enjoy their "Golden Years!"
