    Wrist Release on the Forehand?

Or is it loose throughout the forehand swing motion?

I would like each of you interested in this thread to open a window that allows you to view the following file.

Go to Strokes Archive and select Rodger Federer's forehand videos.

    Select CENTER

Then Select the first video called FH Center Side1.

The modern forehand is becoming more like the serve in the way the wrist is and how it is allowed to move through the ball. It is loose and it uses acceleration not the players will, to place the wrist (and therefore the hand) in a laid back position.

As the lower arm decelerates this causes the hand to flop forward because the wrist is loose. It is not just elastic it is loose. Which then allows the hand to bend forward in the opposite way on the followthrough towards his other shoulder.

I would encourage you to play the video in slo-mo to see exactly how to hit the MODERN forehand.
