    Coria backhand

    John,
What way does Coria hit his backhand, is it flex/flex?

Taken from John's article, "Andy Roddick's Backhand":

"Let's start with the grip. Virtually all of the men who hit Bent/Straight shift the grip with the lower or right hand to some version of a backhand grip. With some of them such as Nalbandian or Coria, the grip shift is relatively mild, a shift to some version of a continental grip."

This indicates to me that John classifies Guillermo as a bent/straight two-hander. However, as John has mentioned elsewhere, on different balls, you can see two-handers slipping into different hitting arm combinations. You may be exactly right that on some balls he goes bent/bent. But on most, he is bent-straight.

      Kevin,

It's interesting isn't it? Maybe his arm doesn't totally completely straighten out, but there appears to be some small bend in most of them at contact. I looked at a dozen or so just now. The front arm is definitely somewhat bent, but maybe not as much as say Hewitt or other clearly bent-straight examples.

Is it yet another variation in the endlessly complex world of pro stroke development??
