Some People Think I'm a Shoe

Stan Smith, 1972 Wimbledon champion, is perhaps more famous for his shoe than his Wimbledon title.

I went to St John Vianney High Scool in Los Angeles. When I graduated in 1963, Stan Smith’s future doubles partner Bob Lutz was a sophmore and he and hus brother led the tennis team to becsme El Camino Real champions.

Stan Smith is a very nice guy. Not the most dynamic nor electric personality. It is funny how this one adidas shoe has stood the test of time. He had some really nice comments in the article about Federer's game as well.

I wore a pair of first generation Stan Smith's in high school!

I never liked the shoe. Back in the early versions you had to break them in and got blisters in the process. The leather was really hard. Personally, I find the shoe a bit dull; as a fashion statement and as a tennis shoe.

I preferred Nastase's shoes with the three stripes: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ygv2q4giYb...00/5+-+Nastase

                Stotty,
That was the name of that shoe! Came out after Stan's--much better! Switched immediately myself. Probably the first high performance shoe there ever was...
