Tom has died of brain cancer. He was one of a handful of still independent tennis journalists, working for the Wall Street Journal. I worked with him on many instructional articles. Hit balls with him at Indian Wells. We had not been in touch for a few years. This news sucks. Rest in peace my friend. Here is the article about the collaboration we started when he was still at Tennis magazine.

I read of Tom's passing over at Tennis.com. I have a strong interest in tennis journalism and they always seem a tight-knit bunch over there. They must be a hard outfit to get in and work for as no one ever seems to leave. A colleague of Tom's wrote a nice article for him, which revealed what a nice temperament he had and that he was good fun to be with. What more could you ask of a friend? What fine qualities. Such a terrible shame he died so young.

Shame. Good journalist. I only had minor contact with him, but he was amiable and forthcoming to a mere fan pinging him. So much bad news.
