Torn Meniscus, playing with brace, thoughts or suggestions?

Great pics!! I might have to ask where you got your suit for my next transatlantic flight. I will definitely keep your advice in mind. The brace is this one which is supposed to really help my knee by offloading.
Not sure I have that type of capital to invest in equipment at this point. My wife wants to remodel the kitchen so my $$'s will have to go there. You know you are in trouble when your wife says it needs remodeling and you see an example of what it might look like and then... You realize that it will be much nicer. It's like a spell has been broken when it has been so long since any kind of furniture and paint would do.
I will definitely ask about the first option and see pricing. I have a spending account for health related things that I can tap into which cannot be spent on remodeling.
Thanks!

Just remember - its a band-aid that brace - figuring out cause is #1 in this business.Last edited by tenniscoach1; 02-25-2021, 10:45 PM.

tenniscoach1...I'm trying to imagine the thought process going into the name change. Knowing you...there is a reason. Or not. One thing you might want to check with jyandel about...is if your prior posts can be transferred under your new moniker and if your join date can be transferred as well. You probably had "Senior Member" status before and it is well and good to see the number of posts you have made to date. It's not as if you are a newcomer here. But welcome to "The New Kid in Town" just the same.

True. I have had X-rays of my hip as well. I will take notes and see what I can figure out given the restrictions of a system which tends to put band-aids on everything. Then it takes them off and puts new ones on.Originally posted by tenniscoach1 View PostJust remember - its a band-aid that brace - figuring out cause is #1 in this business.

Good point. I have an arthritic knee and try to keep slightly under my natural bodyweight because it makes all the difference if I do. Basically, it keeps me pain free.Originally posted by glacierguy View PostBest of luck with your injury rehab. Could you perhaps reduce load on the knee by losing a few pounds? You may already be slim as a pin, but if not, losing some weight would give you something positive to work on, and benefit your health generally even if it doesn't help the knee.Stotty

I have slightly elevated cholesterol and so have been eating a plant based diet with fish and egg whites on most days. The idea is to try and get my cholesterol down and avoid Statins. This should help control my weight but now that my knee is bothering me, I cannot exercise as much. It is all a vicious circle. So my hope is that the brace can allow me to exercise more which can allow me to lose some weight and so then it should take pressure off of my knees.Originally posted by stotty View Post

If all goes as planned, I can begin to followup on a deeper plan.
I know a player who had meniscus surgery and eventually ended up with two knee replacements. He is quite a bit overweight and I wonder if losing some weight might have given him better mobility, better knees and better health.

My goal is too continually strengthen my knee, keep my weight right down, and avoid any surgery altogether if possible. Once you let them in your knee, it will never be the same again. Roger has all the money in the world and access to the best surgeons and even he has had a failed operation operation on the knee which had to be revisited.
It's an amazing joint, the knee. When you think how much of your body it is effortlessly supporting as you move around.Stotty

What about alternative treatments? Tennis Coach 1 had some good suggestions. Any thoughts?Originally posted by stotty View PostMy goal is too continually strengthen my knee, keep my weight right down, and avoid any surgery altogether if possible. This kind of thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I4RTYaZ7LYOriginally posted by arturohernandez View Post
Is this the same thing as a foam roller? If not, do you have a pic or link?
It works well for me and Phil...others not much effect. I don't look quite so beautiful when I'm rolling as the girl in the clip...
