I agree with you about Nadal. In fact, I have always kind of felt that Nadal is about a strong of a semi western grip that one could have and be able to hit with an extended elbow straight arm forehand. I actually think his heel pad kind of off the end of the butt of the grip may play into his hitting configration also. Players that have as strong a semi western as Novak, Sock, and Kyrgios I really don't think could really work an extended elbow forehand.

I stand by what I saw. I made him firmly on bevel 4. Forget knuckles as a definite reference point because all of us have different shaped hands and length of fingers and our own unique way of gripping. The heel pad matters most. It's the reference point that is the same for all of us. I made Nadal's heel bang on bevel 4 so quite a way off full western. His grip is not as far round as some people think.

Nadal's is a bit scary when when being escorted by officials to a match at Wimbledon. You instinctively know you can't approach him. He's focused and would probably punch your lights out if you asked him about his grip. But away from the match scenario he's a very nice man. I would have no hesitation in asking him about his grip if I caught him after a practice session. I just know he would be happy to show me or anyone his grip. I cannot believe no one has yet approached him about it. Looks like I might have to be the first.

Stroke,
You guys are probably right. I had him I think about a 4 1 / 2. But the index knuckle on 5 makes a difference. Changes the angle of the palm across the grip handle.Comment

Serve and volley: a viable, underutilized strategy for all players at all levels. In this series I've shared my personal journey in becoming a serve and volley player and outlined the teaching components I have developed to teach it to others. It's currently a minority view, but I remain convinced serve and volley is an...

I am trying to compare racket drops of certain players. When I try to access the Roddick serve archive, the movie window says I need to install a missing Quicktime plugin. Is this right? With Roger and Sampras the clips just played normally on my screen. Why not Roddick?StottyComment
